Are You Meeting Up?

All of this talk about Social Networking and online relationship building is still pointed to one thing… MEETING PEOPLE.  Right?  Isn’t that why we do all of this.  We Tweet, we FaceBook, make Fan Pages, get LinkedIn…  We do all sorts of things to create communities and foster relationships.

But the rubber has to meet the road, and the only way that happens is to actually meet people… in person… like face to face.

Shocking, huh?!?

So, how can we do this crazing ‘meetup’ thing you are talking about? Sandy Aichner knows how, and she talked about it at #rebcclt…  MeetUp.com.  In effect, this is a website dedicated to people actually getting together face to face to talk about their common interests.  And thos interests can range from quilting to gluten free diets.  In a bigger metro area, like Atlanta, there might be well over 1,000 groups.

Sandy even met a Bull a few days ago… they didn’t get along that well, but at least everyone was entertained…

So, what if you don’t find a group you are interested in?

Start one…  There are a few ground rules… and you probably will be meeting up by yourself if you think you are going to host a 30 minute commercial each month or week… but the point is that it is pretty easy.

I have joined a couple of MeetUp groups for the Atlanta area.  I’ll be attending some meetings about WordPress, blogging, Internet Marketing and some car related stuff…

The best part is that I will make some new friends and learn some cool new stuff.
